Support for the neurodivergent brain in NZ

Standard sobriety advice and education often fails people with ADHD because it ignores how the neurodivergent brain is wired. If you struggle with impulsivity, restlessness or a constant need for stimulation, drinking often becomes a way to quieten the 'noise'. In my work as a registered mental health coach, I see how this creates a cycle of self-medication that is incredibly hard to break without the right strategy.

Sober neurodivergent: Understanding the link

I understand the ADHD–addiction connection because I have lived it. As I explored in my blog on the link between ADHD and addiction, understanding my own brain was the final key to my lasting sobriety. I now help clients across Auckland and New Zealand use that same strategic lens to unlock their own recovery.

How we work together

Coaching methods
Coaching is about behaviour change. Through coaching methods and using the widely accepted psychological method of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, we work on ways to build healthy habits you can actually stick to.

Dopamine management
We identify healthy, high-stimulation alternatives to alcohol that satisfy your brain's need for novelty without the 'ADHD tax' of a hangover.

Executive function support
Standard routines rarely work for neurodivergent brains. We build bespoke, flexible recovery habits that account for executive dysfunction and those days when your brain feels foggy or overwhelmed.

Strategic self-care
We focus on the bottom layer of the lifestyle medicine cake—discovering your ADHD triggers and working on solutions so that the anxiety and the urge to drink naturally begin to lift.
